The current title, the Journal of Reproductive Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences (JRBBS) replaced the previous title, the Journal of Reproductive Biotechnology and Fertility (JRBF). The reason for this change is related to the need to apply for a new ISSN because of the lapse of the previous number. The lapse of the ISSN is thought to have occurred due to an inadvertent clerical error at the time of transfer of the JRBF from the previous to current publishers. The change in the ISSN number also required a change in the title of the journal. It was a requirement that the current publishers have to comply with, hence the above change in the title. The JRBBS title was the best fit available to the publishers, and the change appears to be in line with the intentions of the publishers to reach out to the wider audience. This previously unanticipated change has resulted in an opportunity for the journal to open its portal to the entire biomedical science fraternity.
This publication originally commenced in 2010 in Malaysia to provide a forum for free access to scientific information. Scientists of economically less endowed countries have no access to a vast number of professional journals due to the high cost of subscription. Although open access started as a means to provide scientific information to all but soon became a major business enterprise. Commercialization of scientific publishing resulted in difficulty for authors from poor countries, such that many could no longer publish their work because of the extremely high cost imposed on authors for publishing in some open-access journals, especially well-established journals.
The result of these circumstances is that research activities are severely harmed or disadvantaged such that it affected scientific progress in economically less endowed nations. We do not need proof. We can see it happening right now in many countries. If we investigated and analyzed this situation in greater detail it will become readily apparent that the lack of access to scientific information and publishing is one of the many obstacles faced by the scientific communities of less affluent nations. It is something that the research workers in affected countries endure daily. This contributed to their poor scientific development at the micro level or the individual level. It is a great way of keeping the poor less
informed and underdeveloped.
It was on this premise that this journal was initiated so that scientific information and publishing are made freely available to the scientific community irrespective of their financial standing. We hope this small step will assist research in financially less endowed nations.
The JRBBS will be published on annual basis, that is one volume per year. The volume number for the year 2024 is Volume 13.
We have made our publishing services gratis for all students of any geographic location, as well as to research workers of lower and middle economies, and self-funded authors from any part of the globe. Authors with institutional financial support are the only categories of research workers required to contribute a nominal sum as payment for publishing. The journal would greatly appreciate donations that will assist us provide this free service to deserving authors irrespective of their location.
